No discussion about local architecture would be complete without including the North Point Water Tower, sometimes compared to Rapunzel’s fairtytale tower. Overlooking the shores of Lake Michigan, the 175-foot Victorian Gothic-style tower was built in 1873. In 1968, Milwaukee Landmark Commission identified it as an official landmark and it is unquestionably one of the most beloved and recognizable structures in the area. Unfortunately, you can’t climb the tower but you can get pretty close to it. You can learn more about this East Side landmark; check out this On Milwaukee story.

Milwaukee365 offers walking tours of the North Point Neighborhood including the Frederick Bogk house. The only Milwaukee home totally designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, it was built in 1916-1917, during Wright’s Japanese period. The Gustave Pabst mansion is another famous building built in 1906-1907 for one of the heirs to the Pabst beer fortune. It’s interesting to imagine life in these historic homes via a close look at their beautiful details.
