The New Shop in Town

The New Shop in Town

There’s a new shopping destination in town. The Treasure Chest is a resale shop that’s just opened at Eastcastle Place retirement community on Milwaukee’s East Side. Stocked with items donated by residents and staff, the Treasure Chest offers gently-used furniture, household items, knickknacks, and art, all at reasonable prices. The shop is open to residents, staff, family, and friends.

The Treasure Chest was the idea of Eastcastle Place’s Resident Council President Libby Sellars, who wanted to do more for the community’s employees. Funds raised through sales at the Treasure Chest will go into a scholarship fund for Eastcastle staff. “The residents always want to show their appreciation to our outstanding employees and launching a scholarship fund helps the staff to further their education,” said Tyler Gudex, executive director of Eastcastle Place. “There are other important factors to the Treasure Chest too. It provides an opportunity for people to recycle their belongings, and a chance for others to buy lovely items for a reasonable price. Additionally, so many of our residents love to volunteer, and this provides the perfect opportunity as they handle all the operations of the Treasure Chest including accepting donations, stocking the shelves, and making sales. It’s really just an all-around great initiative that we are very proud of.”
