What is a Life Plan Community?
Life Plan Communities (also known as Continuing Care Retirement Communities or CCRCs) are senior living communities that provide several lifestyle options, so you can choose the one that fits your needs and the way you want to live. This includes a continuum of care and a range of services, amenities, wellness programs, and activities, all designed to help you stay healthy and independent for as long as possible.
Because Eastcastle Place is a Life Plan Community, you can enjoy your independent lifestyle now and be assured all levels of care are available on-site when you need it, at a discounted rate for life.
What does a Life Plan Community cost in Milwaukee County, WI?
There are two financial components with most Life Plan Communities’ living options: Residents pay the entrance fee and the monthly fee.
Entrance fee: This is a one-time fee paid when you move into the community. It’s based on the size of the residence you choose and whether it will be just you or you and your spouse living in that residence. A portion of the entrance fee may be refundable.
Monthly fee: This helps pay for the services and amenities at the community. Depending on your contract, the monthly fee may or may not increase if you move to a higher level of living.
Life Plan Communities provide residents with access to several levels of care at fees significantly lower than market rates. As your health needs change, you have the appropriate level of support with activities of daily living or beyond.
At Eastcastle Place, we offer independent living, assisted living, memory care, rehabilitation, and skilled nursing. Because we offer a Type B contract, you only pay for the services you use, and you get a $60,000 credit toward future on-site care.

What is a Type B contract or modified CCRC contract?
There are two financial components with most Life Plan Communities’ living options: Residents pay the entrance fee and the monthly fee.
A Type B (modified) contract is a residency agreement in a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) that offers a balance between lower monthly fees and future care security.
Unlike a Type A (LifeCare) contract, which prepays for all future care, or a Type C (fee-for-service) contract, where you pay full market rates for everything, Type B offers a specified amount of care at a discounted rate.
Why Choose Type B?
- Lower up-front costs: It’s often more accessible than Type A contracts because you aren’t prepaying for a lifetime of nursing care you might never need.
- Risk management: It provides a significant safety net, like that $60,000 credit, to buffer the high costs of healthcare, protecting your estate.
- Flexibility: You only pay for the higher levels of service if and when you actually use them.

Benefits of Life Plan Communities
Moving to an active senior living community – whether it’s a Life Plan Community or a rental community – is a big decision. There are a variety of factors to consider before you choose which community is right for you and where you’re going to spend your retirement years. So before you decide, consider the benefits of moving into a Life Plan Community like Eastcastle Place.
Life Plan Communities are all-inclusive. One fee covers everything, including your maintenance-free residence, many utilities, meals (communities offer several meal plan options), housekeeping, home maintenance, transportation, security, and access to amenities (like fitness centers and art studios), and programs.
With a continuum of care on-site, Life Plan Communities allow older adults to age in place. Residents can live with true peace of mind, secure in the knowledge that if health care needs change, the wide range of care they need is available on-site. They are able to move from one level of care to another without leaving the community.
In addition to the services and amenities offered at an active adult community, residents live among peers with shared interests. This is a tremendous advantage for those who are single or widowed. The social connection and true sense of community can be very rewarding.
Many Life Plan Communities offer a variety of social events, activities, programs, clubs, outings, travel, and more. Living in a Life Plan Community offers the best of both worlds: a private residence with the comfort of knowing people are always around.
A Life Plan Community not only offers residents the active lifestyle they want with the security they need, but it also relieves a great burden from families. When a senior or senior couple resides in an independent living community, their family knows that they are safe and well cared for, now and in the future.
Couples who live in a Life Plan Community in Milwaukee but have different healthcare or support needs are able to continue living together. The community can often meet their long-term care, skilled nursing care, or continuum of care needs while they reside in the same residence. If one spouse needs a higher level of care, it is still easy to see one another every day and even partake in the community’s programs and activities together.
