Enjoying Her New Home
Rose Marie Baron recalls what was at one time the mantra of her daughter, who lives in California. For many years, Rose Marie said, “She encouraged me to age in place.” But this was formerly; before the death of Rose Marie’s husband of 63 years. “She changed her tune when my husband died three years ago and I was alone. I have no family here, and she didn’t feel that I was safe living by myself,” said Rose Marie, who ultimately came to the very same conclusion.
Coincidentally, at the time that she came to the realization that she should be less isolated, Rose Marie received an invitation to an open house at Eastcastle Place senior living community on Milwaukee’s vibrant East side. “Years before, my husband and I had visited but decided we weren’t ready. We had visited other retirement communities in the area, but they didn’t have the gemütlichkeit (warmth) of Eastcastle Place,” Rose Marie said. When she learned at the end of April of this year that the perfect apartment was available at Eastcastle Place, she decided the time was right and moved two months later.
Rose Marie, who is a retired attorney, said that she is precisely as busy as she’d like to be in her new home. “I take exercise classes, participate in the book club and the memoir writing group, and I’m a walker. Being so close to the lake is a perfect location. Everybody here is sweet and welcoming; I’ve never met so many nice people. Eastcastle Place has been the perfect decision,” she said. “I’m a happy camper here and I’d love for people to know how wonderful it is.”
